Applications
Modern gift and souvenir packaging
The acrylic lid + wood body combination reads as contemporary design, not traditional craft. For brands targeting a modern, design-conscious customer, this aesthetic alignment matters. The acrylic lid lets the product sell itself while the wooden frame provides warmth and substance.
Wedding candy and favor boxes
Fill with colorful candies, confetti, or personalized items and the acrylic lid turns the box into a display case. The handle makes it easy for guests to carry home. After the event, the box transitions to bathroom or desk storage — clear top means the user always knows what's inside.
Retail product display packaging
In retail, products that customers can see outsell products in opaque packaging. The acrylic lid removes the barrier between the customer and the product while the wooden body maintains a premium packaging presentation. The handle allows customers to carry the purchase out without a bag.
Customization Options
Dimensions. Standard footprints: 19.5×19.5cm, 22.5×22.5cm, 20×13cm (rectangular). Heights: 8.5cm, 11cm, and custom. Select the combination that fits your product dimensions.
Wood Species. Pine is standard. Paulownia for lighter weight. Birch plywood for a more refined, contemporary appearance with cleaner edges.
Handle Style. Wooden handle (matching wood species, integrated look). Leather handle (brown, black, or tan — adds material contrast). No handle (cleanest top profile, best for stacking).
Lid. Standard: 3mm clear acrylic. Available: tinted acrylic (smoke, bronze), or solid wood lid (for an opaque version of the same box body).
Finish. Natural pine, clear coat, custom stain, or painted. The natural finish with acrylic lid is the most popular contemporary combination.
Interior. Standard: open cavity. Available: custom-fit insert, divided compartments, or fabric/velvet lining.
Branding. Laser engraving on the wooden frame — dark mark, visible against natural pine. Screen printing on the frame. Subtle UV printing on the acrylic lid — brand logo that doesn't obstruct product visibility.

Why This Design Works
Acrylic-on-wood is the 'modern' signal in wooden packaging. An all-wood box reads traditional, heritage, rustic. Replace the wooden lid with crystal-clear acrylic, and the same box reads contemporary, minimalist, design-forward. The material contrast — warm, textured wood with cool, smooth acrylic — creates visual interest that neither material achieves alone. For brands that want wooden packaging but don't want to look traditional, this is the format.
The handle makes a display box portable. A box with an acrylic lid is meant to be seen into — it's a display case as much as a container. Adding a handle makes the display case portable: pick it up, carry it, set it down somewhere else, the contents remain visible throughout. The handle completes the functionality: the box is now something you can take with you, not just something that sits on a shelf.
Multiple size and height options let you match the box to the product. A shallow box with a tall product looks wrong — the acrylic lid presses against the contents or doesn't close. A tall box with a small product looks empty. The range of standard sizes (different footprints and heights) means you select the proportions that match your product, not the other way around.
Manufacturing Considerations
Acrylic lid fit in a wooden frame is the #1 precision checkpoint. The acrylic panel sits in a rabbeted groove in the top of the wooden frame. Wood expands and contracts with humidity; acrylic doesn't. The groove must allow for wood movement without being so loose that the acrylic rattles or falls out. We machine for 0.5mm clearance around the acrylic perimeter. In very dry conditions, the wood shrinks slightly and the gap is more visible; in very humid conditions, the wood swells and the acrylic fits tighter. Both extremes are within the design tolerance for the standard sizes.
Acrylic lid alignment with the wooden frame is a visual QC checkpoint. The acrylic panel's edge must be parallel with the wood frame edge on all four sides. If the panel is cut slightly out of square or the frame is assembled slightly off, the gap between acrylic and wood varies — wider on one side, narrower on the other. This is immediately visible because the clear acrylic makes the gap obvious. We measure gap consistency on all four sides during final inspection.
Handle attachment must not interfere with the acrylic lid. If the handle is mounted to the lid frame, the attachment screws must not protrude into the acrylic panel area. The handle mounting point is positioned on the frame, outside the acrylic panel's footprint. For boxes where the handle must be mounted on the acrylic side, we use handle styles that attach to the wooden frame only, not through the acrylic.
