Applications
Tea and specialty food packaging
Round boxes are the traditional format for compressed tea cakes, loose tea collections, and spice sets. The cylindrical form protects round tea cakes without wasted corner space. The natural wood interior doesn't impart odor or taste to the contents.
Wedding and event favors
Fill with candies, small gifts, or personalized items and seal with a branded sticker or ribbon. The round wooden box becomes a keepsake after the event — guests keep it for jewelry, trinkets, or desk storage. Available in sizes appropriate for individual favors or couple/family gifts.
Small gift and souvenir packaging
The round form is visually softer and more approachable than a rectangular box — it reads as 'gift' rather than 'container.' For jewelry, accessories, small artisan products, and destination souvenirs, the wooden round box elevates the perceived value of the contents.

Why This Design Works
The round form is the most space-efficient shape for round products. Tea cakes, candles, soaps, coasters, medals, and compact jewelry — these are all round or fit efficiently in a round container. A round box has no empty corners, so the packaging volume matches the product volume more closely than a square box. For shipping, this means less wasted dimensional weight.
Poplar and birch offer a choice between cost and refinement. Poplar is the workhorse: lightweight (~450 kg/m³), machines cleanly, widely available, and the most cost-effective solid wood for turned boxes. Birch is the upgrade: denser (~630 kg/m³), finer grain, lighter color, and produces a sharper laser engraving mark. Both are available for the same box design — you choose based on price point and presentation requirements, not because the manufacturing process changes.
The internal-fit lid is the simplest reliable closure. No threads to cross, no hinges to loosen, no magnets to embed. The lid has a reduced-diameter rim that fits inside the body opening. Friction holds it closed. One motion to open, one motion to close. The fit clearance is machined to 0.3–0.5mm — tight enough for retention, loose enough for easy operation. This is the closure mechanism that works equally well on a $2 favor box and a $20 premium gift box.
Manufacturing Considerations
Lid-body pairing is essential and non-negotiable. Each lid is machined to fit its specific body — the internal-fit rim tolerance is too tight for interchangeable lids across a production run. Lid and body stay together as a matched pair from turning through finishing to packing. Mix-ups at any stage produce boxes with lids that are too tight or too loose. Our process marks each pair and keeps them physically together through every production step.
End-grain sealing at the top and bottom rims prevents cracking. The top rim (where the lid seats) and bottom edge expose end grain, which absorbs and releases moisture faster than the face grain of the cylinder wall. Over seasonal humidity cycles, unsealed end grain develops small radial checks — not structural, but visible. We apply a penetrating sealer to both rims that stabilizes moisture exchange without adding visible film thickness.
Wood species selection affects the lid fit over time. Poplar is more dimensionally stable with humidity changes than birch — it moves less. A poplar lid-body pair maintains its original fit tolerance through a wider humidity range than a birch pair, all else equal. For export to climates with significant seasonal humidity swings, poplar is the more forgiving choice. For climate-controlled retail and gift environments, birch's finer appearance justifies the slightly tighter fit tolerance management.
