The friction-fit closure is more expensive to manufacture correctly than adding a clasp — and it's worth it. A clasp is forgiving — if the lid-to-base alignment is off by 0.5mm, the clasp still closes. A friction-fit lid must be machined to ±0.2mm around the entire perimeter to stay closed without rattling and open without excessive force. The lid rim and base rim are cut as a matched pair from the same setup, ensuring the mating surfaces are perfectly parallel. The result is a closure that feels like quality — the slight resistance as the lid seats, the quiet, solid close, the exterior with no visible hardware to interrupt the walnut grain. Manufacturing Considerations
