A solid wood base with a clear acrylic dome cover — made for bakeries, patisseries, and food retailers who display whole cakes, pastries, or desserts on the counter. The tray lifts the cake off the counter surface and the dome keeps it clean without hiding it. The base is wood; the dome is clear acrylic. Together they form a self-contained display unit that works on counters, shelves, or refrigerated cases.

Materials and construction

The base is a single solid wood panel — typically acacia or pine, depending on the look you want. Acacia gives a darker, denser base with visible grain contrast. Pine is lighter in weight and color, takes stain well if you want a specific tone. The base edge is routed with a shallow groove that the acrylic dome seats into — this keeps the dome centered and prevents it from sliding off if the tray gets bumped.

The dome is clear acrylic, typically 3mm thick, thermoformed into a dome or bell shape. Acrylic is lighter than glass and won't shatter if dropped during counter service. It does scratch more easily than glass — a trade-off to discuss based on your use case. Tempered glass domes are available for a heavier, more scratch-resistant option.

Finishes and food safety

The wood base is finished with food-grade mineral oil or beeswax for direct food contact surfaces, or clear lacquer if the cake sits on a doily or board (no direct food contact). The acrylic dome is food-safe as-is — no coating needed.

Customization

Base diameter, dome height, wood species, and finish are all specified per order. Standard base diameters range from 20cm to 35cm. Dome height is set based on what you're displaying — a standard layer cake needs about 15–18cm of interior clearance. Tell us your cake dimensions and we'll size the dome accordingly.

Branding: laser engraving on the base (most common), silk-screen on the base edge, or a branded plaque inset into the wood. MOQ 200 pieces for custom dimensions. Lead time 15–20 days after sample approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Is the dome dishwasher safe?
  Hand wash only — warm water and mild soap. Acrylic clouds up in dishwashers. The wood base is hand-wash only regardless.
• Can the dome be made taller or wider?
  Yes. Dome dimensions are set to your product. Taller domes need slightly thicker acrylic to maintain rigidity — typically 4mm instead of 3mm for domes over 20cm tall.
• Glass or acrylic?
  Acrylic: lighter, won't shatter, scratches more easily. Glass: heavier, more scratch-resistant, breaks if dropped. For counter service where trays move frequently, acrylic is usually the safer choice. For fixed display in a glass case, glass looks more substantial.
• Does the wood base need to be oiled regularly?
  If finished with mineral oil, yes — same maintenance as a wood cutting board. Every few weeks in daily use, a quick wipe with food-grade mineral oil keeps the surface from drying out. Lacquered bases need no maintenance beyond regular cleaning.
