Applications
Direct-to-consumer winery fulfillment
No hardware to loosen in transit. The sliding lid stays secure through carrier networks — same function on delivery day as it had leaving the fulfillment center.
Retail shelf display
Medium-dark stained pine with silk screen branding reads as premium at a fraction of hardwood cost. Boxes stack cleanly and the lid glides smoothly for in-store handling.
Wine club subscriptions
Identical quality month after month across thousands of units. Removable dividers mean customers keep the box — free ongoing brand exposure.
Customization Options
Dimensions & Bottle Fit. Standard fits six 750ml Bordeaux bottles. We adjust for Burgundy (wider), Riesling (taller/narrower), or any custom bottle shape. The main constraint is material yield — dimensions that maximize boxes per panel sheet keep per-unit cost down.
Wood Species. Pine is standard — lightweight, takes stain well, most cost-effective. Paulownia is lighter but softer. Solid oak or walnut for ultra-premium runs at 2–3× the material cost of pine.
Stain & Finish. Fully customizable — natural, honey, walnut, mahogany, or matched to your brand Pantone. Medium to dark stains hide handling marks better than light finishes. Matte or satin clear coat over the stain for scuff resistance. Custom stain color matching →
Branding Method. Silk screen: lowest per-unit cost, crisp opaque graphics. Laser engraving: permanent textured mark that won't wear off. Hot branding: burns the mark into the wood for a dark, permanent impression.
Interior Configuration. Six individual compartments with slotted wooden dividers. The dividers are not glued — they lift out cleanly if the customer wants to repurpose the box. Standard layout fits six 750ml Bordeaux bottles; we adjust the compartment dimensions for Burgundy, Riesling, or custom bottle shapes.

Why This Design Works
The sliding lid has no failure points. Hinges strip screws, bind, and go out of alignment. Latches wear. A sliding lid runs on a track milled directly into the side panels — no hardware, nothing to loosen, works the same on the 100th use as the 1st. For wineries shipping direct to consumers, a lid that glides cleanly and silently is a quality signal the customer feels before they even see the bottles.
Pine isn't a compromise here — it's the right material. Six 750ml bottles weigh 16–18 pounds. Oak or walnut would add 3–5 pounds to the box, driving up shipping costs without improving bottle protection. Kiln-dried pine at 10–12% moisture content is dimensionally stable, takes stain evenly, and a medium-dark walnut stain on pine delivers 90% of the hardwood look at half the material cost.
The slotted dividers are designed to be removed. During shipping they prevent bottle-to-bottle contact — the #1 cause of breakage. But they're not glued in, so the customer can lift them out and repurpose the box for storage or décor. Every time they do, your brand stays visible. That's free marketing built into the joinery.

Manufacturing Considerations
Moisture content controls everything about a sliding-lid box. Pine needs to hit 10–12% MC before the lid tracks are cut. Too wet: the grooves loosen as the wood dries and the lid rattles. Too dry: seasonal humidity swells the wood and the lid binds. For shipments to humid climates, we target the low end of the range and seal the tracks with a moisture-resistant coating.
Track precision makes or breaks a sliding-lid box. A 0.5mm variance in groove width or depth is the difference between a smooth glide and a stuck lid. We check track dimensions on every sample to confirm the fit before production.
Watch out for finish buildup in the sliding tracks. Stain and clear coat can accumulate in the grooves if not applied carefully, narrowing the track and causing the lid to bind. We mask the track interiors before finishing, then apply a thin dry lubricant after the finish cures to keep the slide smooth.
Have a technical concern about your use case? Our team can walk you through how we'd handle it for your project.
Start with standard pine and a medium-dark walnut stain — it achieves 90% of the hardwood look at half the material cost. Silk screen branding on the lid gives you clean, durable graphics at the lowest per-unit cost. Keep the interior simple — slotted wood dividers do the job. Decorative lining adds cost and production time without improving what customers actually notice about a wine box: the lid action, the stain finish, and the branding.
